Welcome to Summertime

Now that we're done with the silly swine flu....it's time for some serious summertime.

Most of the touristas and winter residents have gone off leaving us with the charming little village to ourselves. Unfortunately, that also signals a pretty steep decline in business. We like to think of it as a time to catch up on chores and plan for the next season.

One of the nice things about summer is the foliage is so much happier with rainwater that with only a couple rains, things come alive. Here we have the first birds of paradise of the season. There will be many more.

 Also with the summer comes hurricane season. We just had our first one, Andreas, come and go. For a time, it looked like it was coming straight for us and would make landfall really close. The weather underground site was forecasting winds up to 118 k/hr....Ultimately, Andreas got one look at us and fainted or something....took a turn west and slowly drifted out to sea. This one was a hurricane for only a few hours before dropping back to a tropical storm. Looked pretty serious for a bit though.

 As the thing went past us the wind swung around to the east creating some really pretty waves. Bunch of boys went surfing and wakeboarding....

 Here we have Marta and Alma in the very stylish Palapa Joe's rain gear otherwise known as large bolsas para basura or large garbage bags....Our newly paved streets did pretty good....only pooling up in a couple of spots fortunately none close to us.

 This little guy came to visit the next day. Didn't care for the corn flakes that I offered. At one point, he was in Jet's mouth as she contemplated a tasty little mid day snack. I convinced her to move away from the iguana.

As it usually happens, the next day was utterly spectacular. The air was all scrubbed out buy the wind and rain....looked like you could see all the way to Taiwan.  

 Off for vacation starting Saturday....First stop is two weeks with sweetie in NC. Then back here and saddle up for the ride to California for the annual back to reality event. Wish me luck!
