The continuing adventures of Kimberly and Willy
Chilin' in the Mountains
We just got back from a nice 4 day jaunt into the mountains of western North Carolina. Kimberly rented a cabin for us in the thriving metropolis of Bat Cave, NC. The cabin, which sat on the banks of the Broad River, was built in the 1860's. When you walked through a room, there were all kinds of creaks and groans and it seemed to rock a bit...The place was so tweaked that sometimes you felt like it was an old sailboat....especially the tiny bathrooms....guess folks were smaller then.

The river was beautiful and sound of the rushing water was very relaxing. Here we have Kimberly enjoying morning coffee on the river.
The water was moving pretty good...was fun throwing twigs in and seeing which way then went.
Really reminded me of the rivers we used to see in the Pocono Mountains in eastern Pennsylvania.
The second day we went into the Chimney Rock Park, home to several hiking trails, some great rock ourcroppings and location for some films including Last of the Mohicans and Fire Starter. The movie Dirty Dancing was shot up the road a few miles at Lake Lure.
We took an elevator 26 stories up and then up a couple hundred steps to Chimney Rock. The views were spectacular....many, many miles in each direction.
This photo was taken from Exclamation Point, which I'm sure was named because after hiking from Chimney up a few hundred more feet, a combination of trails and stairs....many, many stairs, you thought what the !(@(#(@! was I thinking. The tip of Lake Lure is in the background.
This is a better look at Lake Lure...A man made lake created in the 30's.

This wonderful little rock, the Devil's Head, on the way up to Exclamation Point.
Took about 6 snaps to get this gal with her wings open....worth the effort.

Next, we went on a short hike to see the Hickory Nut Falls....about a 400 foot drop.

Waterfalls and the quest for same was to become the focus of the trip....more on that in the next post.
