August in La Manzanilla

For 9 days in August, we have a fiesta that celebrates the Virgin of Talpa, the patron saint of Jalisco, Colima and Narayit. The celebration starts with a parade to mass around 5:30 in the morning that is accented by several, perhaps 25 large bottle rockets. The process is repeated in the evening and the parade passes by the restaurant so we get to see the floats that the different neighborhoods enter. This year we had several dancers also.

This year we also had an appearance by the pope. Don't remember if he came last year. Looks like he downsized his traveling rig.

The last evening also included a Castillo, a traditional Mexican fireworks structure and some sky rockets. The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8edxhYJOlHc
